Well-researched article. One must properly balance red tape with safety. Also, don't underestimate the effect of those who bash drug companies for daring to have a profit motive, then criticize them for not taking risks to get potential new drugs to market. Then you have your trial lawyers chasing ambulances, just waiting to profit when new drugs have unintended consequences. Even oil companies have caps on the amount of damages they have to pay after damaging the environment, yet there are no caps on damages drug companies have to pay, or for that matter, doctors have to pay in malpractice premiums or malpractice suits (even if they "win" a frivolous case).
